What we teach

Karate Academy North Shore teaches the style of karate known as Goju Ryu (which translates roughly to mean a mixture of hard as well as flowing techniques).

Internationally we are a member of Seiwakai (https://www.karatedoseiwakai.com/), a global school teaching traditional Goju Ryu Karate that was started in 1971 by the late Shuji Tasaki, 9th Dan Hanshi, and led by Seiichi Fujiwara Sensei since Tasaki Sensei’s death in 2011. Seiwakai is one of the largest member organisations under the Japan Karate Federation (JKF) Goju-Kai (https://www.karatedo.co.jp/gojukai/english/index.html).

This means that our students:

  • have access to the world’s leading karate masters,
  • can participate in international seminars and competitions,
  • can train in thousands of dojo’s around the world when travelling,
  • and their grades are recognised internationally.

Within Australia, Karate Academy North Shore is a member of Karate Academy Japan, Australia (http://karateacademy.com.au). Our chief instructor, Glenn Stephenson, 7th Dan Kyoshi Shihan, is Director of Seiwakai Oceania, and president of JKF Australia.
